Fence Calculator

Count the panels, posts and concrete bags for a straight fence run.

Calculator

8 ft fence panels13 panels
Posts14 posts
Post length (2 ft in the ground)8 ft
Bags of concrete (2 per post)28 bags
Rough material cost$520 – $1,690per 8 ft panel, depending on wood and height; posts and labor extra

How it is calculated

100 ft ÷ 8 ft panels = 12.50, rounded up to 13 panels. Posts = panels + 1 = 14. Two 50-lb bags of concrete per post = 28 bags.

About this calculator

For a straight run of panel fence you need one panel per section, and one more post than panels, because every section is bounded by posts. With 8-foot panels, a 100-foot run needs 13 panels (12.5 rounded up) and 14 posts.

Corners, gates and sloping ground change the count. A gate replaces a panel and needs extra posts and hardware, and fences on slopes may need stepped or racked panels.
