Sod rolls (10 sq ft each, +5%)525 rolls
Sod to buy (+5%)5,250 ft²
Pallets (about 450 sq ft)11.67 pallets
Rough material cost$1,837 – $4,725per sq ft, delivered, before installation

How it is calculated

5,000 sq ft + 5% for cuts and edges = 5,250 sq ft. At about 10 sq ft per roll that is 525 rolls, or 11.67 pallets of 450 sq ft.

About this calculator

Sod is sold in rolls or slabs, and large orders come by the pallet. Measure the lawn area in square feet and add about 5% for cuts and edges. Rolls vary in size by grower, so the roll count here is only an estimate.

Fresh sod should be laid soon after delivery, on soil that has been graded, loosened and lightly firmed. Water it regularly until the roots knit into the ground.
